Sunderland Firefighters
EDM number 1019 in 2006-07, proposed by Fraser Kemp on 01/03/2007.
That this House notes that firefighters in Tyne and Wear are helping to save lives faster than any other brigade in the UK; further notes that, on average, crews across the area are reaching house fires less than six minutes after 999 is dialled; recognises that the record figures mean that firefighters are also helping to save tens of thousands of pounds' worth of damage to property every year; further recognises that Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has consistently been among the fastest brigades in the country since 2000 and that fire engines are arriving on average 5.26 minutes after an emergency call is made; and further notes that an `after the incident' survey found that 99 per cent. of people said firefighters arrived within the time they expected or even quicker and that the majority of respondents thought the firefighters were polite, helpful, informative and efficient.
