Liberal Democrat Policy On Fishing
EDM number 929 in 2005-06, proposed by Mike Weir on 02/11/2005.
That this House notes the position of the Liberal Democrats in this House on fishing as set out in Early Day Motion 918; further notes their call to remove from sale haddock, which is the mainstay of the Scottish fishing fleet; further notes that their comments on the stock of haddock are at variance even with the views of ICES scientists and that the Scottish Fisheries Minister, the Liberal Democrat MSP Ross Finnie, has condemned suggestions of a 40 per cent. reduction in the haddock quota for the coming year; and further notes that the Scottish fishing fleet has taken substantial steps to ensure that they operate an environmentally sustainable fishery and that they deserve the wholehearted support of the House in so doing, rather than ill-informed attacks.
This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
