Royal Ordnance, Chorley
EDM number 919 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 01/11/2005.
That this House condemns the decision taken by BAE Systems to close its manufacturing production at Royal Ordnance, Chorley, and relocate the engineering section of the company; notes that currently 70 people are employed in the manufacturing sector and 130 in engineering; recognises the importance of the work carried out by Royal Ordnance producing initiators for explosives used by the armed forces; expresses concern about where future initiators will be supplied from and the threat to security of supply should they come from abroad; and calls on the Ministry of Defence to meet BAE officials in order to ensure that security of supply of initiators is not put in jeopardy and a facility at Chorley is maintained.
