Sale Of Puppies In Pet Shops
EDM number 863 in 2005-06, proposed by David Taylor on 25/10/2005.
That this House is concerned about the continuing availability of puppies for sale in pets shops and is disappointed that the Animal Welfare Bill published on 14th October fails to address this serious problem; notes that puppies sold in pet shops are often removed from their mothers at a very early age, before being weaned, suffer stress and anxiety as a result of both the journey to the pet shop and the alien environment at which they arrive, and can develop physical and psychological problems as a result; and therefore calls upon the Government to incorporate within the Animal Welfare Bill a clause to ban the sale of unweaned puppies in pet shops.
