Orhan Pamuk

EDM number 843 in 2005-06, proposed by Martin Caton on 24/10/2005.

That this House recognises the extraordinary quality of the writing of the Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk; applauds his courage in speaking about the killing of a million Armenians and 30,000 Kurds in the early part of the twentieth century; is appalled that this has led to his prosecution for the public denigration of Turkish identity; and hopes and expects that commonsense and justice will prevail at his trial set for December 2005.

This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
