WOMEN INSTITUTE'S BOYCOTT OF SUPERMARKETS AND APPOINTMENT OF A SUPERMARKET REGULATOR
EDM number 822 in 2005-06, proposed by Keith Vaz on 21/10/2005.
That this House congratulates the Women's Institute (WI) in Cornwall on their decision to boycott supermarkets in favour of local shops; notes that the current trend of mass expansion of supermarkets, if it continues, will fundamentally change the character of the UK's high streets minimising the supply of goods and shops to a dominant few; urges the Government to establish an independent regulator of supermarkets before it is too late; and wishes the WI well in taking their campaign to the national level.
This motion has been signed by a total of 38 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
