Redevelopment Of The Cardiff Royal Infirmary Site

EDM number 784 in 2005-06, proposed by Jenny Willott on 18/10/2005.

That this House is concerned with the long delays by the Cardiff Local Health Board and its predecessor, the Bro Taf Health Authority, in fulfilling their pledge to redevelop the site of the former Cardiff Royal Infirmary and at the inordinate problems of gaining the necessary funding for this redevelopment; is appalled at the resulting strain placed on the staff and resources at University Hospital Wales, especially on the accident and emergency unit, which has been overwhelmed in recent months, often leading to long waits for patients and queues of ambulances outside the unit due to a lack of free trolleys; and calls on the Secretary of State for Wales to press the Welsh Assembly Government to ensure that delays to the redevelopment of the site do not continue and that they include additional beds at West Wing as well as other community health facilities including a walk-in and primary care centre.
