Wound Care
EDM number 770 in 2005-06, proposed by Dai Havard on 17/10/2005.
That this House notes that approximately 412,000 people in the UK are likely to develop a new pressure ulcer annually, with the total cost of care estimated at between £1.4 and £2.1 billion or four per cent. of the NHS expenditure; further notes that diabetes is becoming a major health problem and that the five per cent. of diabetic patients who will develop a foot ulcer each year are 15 times more likely to need an amputation than people without the condition; believes that such ulcers can be prevented, amputation rates reduced and patients' quality of life improved by using new practices and technologies; congratulates the Tissue Viabililty Nurses Association (TVNA) for bringing this issue to this House's attention; and calls on the Government to work with the TVNA, patient groups and other stakeholders to review current policy and practice in this area.
This motion has been signed by a total of 73 MPs.
