Christian Aid Report On Tax Havens

EDM number 699 in 2005-06, proposed by Adam Price on 10/10/2005.

That this House notes the report by Christian Aid and the Tax Justice Network drawing attention to the negative effect of offshore financial havens on the economies of developing countries; further notes that according to the report the economies of developing countries are deprived of $500 billion a year in lost revenue via tax evasion and offshore banking; further notes that of the 72 tax havens in the world, 35 are British territories or Commonwealth members; and calls on the Government to address this issue as a key part of efforts to alleviate poverty in developing countries.
