Tyres

EDM number 624 in 2005-06, proposed by Bill Wiggin on 19/07/2005.

That this House recognises that almost 50 per cent. of truck tyres sold in the UK are retreads, and that each recycled truck tyre saves the environment 15 gallons of oil and 44 kilograms of rubbber; is concerned that the climate change levy is having negative effects on these environmentally friendly aspects of the tyre manufacturing sector, which receive no support from the Government, while far more energy intensive new tyre manufacturers receive an 80 per cent. discount; and calls on the Government to give more support to the environmentally friendly aspects of the tyre manufacturing industry.

This motion has been signed by a total of 56 MPs.
