Olympic And Paralympic Games In London 2012

EDM number 510 in 2005-06, proposed by Lynne Featherstone on 06/07/2005.

That this House congratulates Team London 2012 for their successful bid to secure the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 in London; notes the hard work of the excellent London 2012 team, the overwhelming public enthusiasm and the cross-party political support; congratulates Paris for a superb bid that helped challenge and stretch London's ambitions to the utmost; further congratulates Moscow, New York and Madrid for their bids; believes the 2012 Games will leave an indelible legacy for communities throughout the United Kingdom; further notes London is one of the world's greatest, most diverse cities, with 200 communities speaking 300 languages; and believes that the cultural richness of the United Kingdom, which will be on show in an exciting package of cultural events surrounding the Games, promises to help enrich further the Olympic Movement.
