Ammochostos (Famagusta)

EDM number 471 in 2005-06, proposed by Edward O'Hara on 30/06/2005.

That this House welcomes the Mayor of Ammochostos (Famagusta) Muncipality and his fellow citizens Mr Andreas Shiopahas (Deputy Mayor), Mrs Zoe Monogiou (Town Councillor), Mrs Vassiliki Habibi and Mr Sozos Pouyouros on their visit to the UK; supports their call for the return to its rightful owners of that part of Ammochostos currently fenced-off with barbed wire, the reconstruction and redevelopment of Ammochostos and the full operation of the port; is convinced that this development of Ammochostos would act as both a catalyst and a test bed for a full solution of the Cyprus problem to the benefit of all Cypriots regardless of ethnic origin; and urges the UK Government to do all in its power to bring these matters into effect.
