Summer Cycling
EDM number 461 in 2005-06, proposed by Austin Mitchell on 29/06/2005.
That this House is concerned with the diminishing air quality during the British summer season; is further concerned that the UK has reached the stage of Government being required to issue smog warnings; urges the Government to take action to reduce all emissions which ruin the atmosphere hot weather brings, resulting in an increase in respiratory problems and even deaths; and suggests that the Government undertakes serious consultations to address the issue and to ensure the provision of safe and accessible cycle schemes throughout the UK's urban and rural areas, as well as promoting the use of cycling as a method of travel and a leisure activity so as to coax people out of cars and onto their bikes and ensure that all can safely and fully appreciate the summer.
