Proposed Closure Of The Meteorological Office In Aberdeen

EDM number 418 in 2005-06, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 27/06/2005.

That this House deplores the proposal to close the Meteorological Office in Aberdeen in spite of its importance to marine and other users and rising offshore oil and gas activity; believes such a step is incompatible with the stated objectives of the Aberdeen operation to provide local knowledge, rapid response, flexibility and personal contact; and questions whether an Exeter-based service can retain the current revenue generated by the Aberdeen office or genuinely meet the needs of the UK, and Scotland in particular, if the only civilian weather station north of the border is closed.

This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
