Real Nappy Week

EDM number 397 in 2005-06, proposed by Norman Baker on 22/06/2005.

That this House congratulates all those involved in Real Nappy Week, especially the Women's Environmental Network, the Waste Resources and Action Programme and the Nappy Alliance; notes that Real Nappy Week commences on 20th June 2005, with events and activities taking place across the UK as part of an ongoing campaign to encourage the use of reusable nappies both by new parents and on NHS maternity wards; notes with concern the spiralling costs to local authorities of dealing with the three billion disposable nappies being thrown away each year and to individual NHS trusts of disposing of nappies as clinical or other waste; acknowledges the ongoing funding by the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of the Waste Resources and Action Programme's Real Nappy Programme; and calls for determined action by Ministers to address the serious waste-related problems and the substantial cost to local government and to the National Health Service resulting from the use and promotion of disposable nappies.

This motion has been signed by a total of 37 MPs.
