Rights Of British Airways Employees

EDM number 2771A1 in 2005-06, proposed by Evan Harris on 19/10/2006.

leave out from `House' to end and add `recognises that British Airways is entitled to impose a dress code on its staff which may include a bar on wearing necklaces outside their uniform; further recognises that such a uniform code ought not prevent staff from visibly wearing items of clothing or accessories which have religious basis where these do not present a health and safety hazard, cannot be hidden, for example turbans and hijabs, and are a formal requirement rather than just an expression of belief; notes that, in the case of the wearing of crucifixes on chains, these are not a requirement for religious adherents and also can be hidden under the uniform; therefore rejects the idea that such a uniform code amounts to discrimination; and believes that there is no justifiable basis for a claim of unfair treatment, human rights violations or discrimination in this case.'.

This is a ammendment to 2771.
