Helmand Incursion

EDM number 2706 in 2005-06, proposed by Paul Flynn on 11/10/2006.

That this House agrees that the present war of attrition in the Helmand Province could continue for a further 20 years, with grievous loss of life; is appalled by the Karsai government's attempts to buy security by appointing gangsters, drug runners and former Taliban leaders as police chiefs and commanders; and is convinced that no victory can be won in Helmand Province on the battlefield and that the strategy of the Helmand incursion should be re-assessed in order to avert Nato's Vietnam and to safeguard gains made in Afghanistan since 2001.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
