Regulations Governing Motorway Service Areas
EDM number 2673 in 2005-06, proposed by Tony Wright on 09/10/2006.
That this House calls for the modernisation of the regulations governing motorway service areas (MSAs); notes that the MSA industry has been calling upon the Highways Agency to issue a public consultation on the MSA regulatory environment since summer 2004, only to see it repeatedly delayed by the Department for Transport; recognises that MSA operators have a crucial role to play in encouraging drivers to stop and take a break and that these numbers can be increased by the use of brand awareness on MSA entrance signs, helping to reduce the number of sleep-related accidents; and calls upon the Department to take this issue seriously in order to enhance the motoring experience of millions of motorway users.
