Violence In Sri Lanka

EDM number 2650 in 2005-06, proposed by Edward Davey on 25/07/2006.

That this House expresses concern over the escalation of violence between the Sri Lankan government and forces of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam; notes that the violence is particularly bad in Trincomalee, Batticalao and Jaffna in the north and east of Sri Lanka; and calls upon this Government to put diplomatic pressure on the Sri Lankan government to address the legitimate grievances of the Tamils regarding their homeland and self rule, to ensure that both parties adhere to the ceasefire agreement brokered by the Norwegian government and resolutions of the Geneva talks, and to prevent further killing of civilians in government-controlled areas.

This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs.
