Rural Stress Information Network

EDM number 2584 in 2005-06, proposed by Shailesh Vara on 17/07/2006.

That this House congratulates the Rural Stress Information Network (RSIN) on its 10th anniversary; notes that the RSIN aims to help those in rural communities suffering from stress or feeling suicidal due to problems such as financial difficulties, physical and social isolation and major events such as the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in 2001; further notes that the RSIN offers support and advice to those experiencing the increasing pressure of rural life in general; further notes that calls to RSIN have increased by some 60 per cent. during the recent difficulties over the single farm payment; pays tribute to the RSIN staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to alleviate suffering over the past 10 years; and wishes the organisation well for the future as it continues to provide a valuable service to the rural community.
