REPORT FROM LONDON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY ON `ONE YEAR ON FROM 7/7'

EDM number 2540 in 2005-06, proposed by David Jones on 11/07/2006.

That this House congratulates the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on its recent report `One Year on From 7/7'; acknowledges the valid and constructive conclusions it drew; supports that report's key proposal that the Government should create a department for homeland security and appoint a single minister to take responsibility for it; agrees with the report's advocacy of the need for more visible policing of London's transport system, including off-duty police officers wearing uniform when travelling free of charge to and from work and greater use of body scanners on the transport system; supports its call for no further delays in ensuring the emergency services have functioning radios when working underground; and generally applauds all of those who, like the LCCI, are endeavouring to make London, and particularly its transport system, safer for the general public.
