Live 8 Concert
EDM number 250 in 2005-06, proposed by Diane Abbott on 06/06/2005.
That this House congratulates the Make Poverty History campaign and welcomes the Live 8 concert to take place in Hyde Park on 2nd July; regrets however that the concert, aimed at raising awareness of poverty in Africa by showcasing the cream of musical talent, has so far failed to include a single Black British, African or Caribbean artist; further notes that out of a total of 22 acts, only Mariah Carey can be counted as being from an ethnic minority; and calls for this otherwise excellent campaign to engage a more diverse range of artists in order to reflect London's diverse communities and to include in this commendable effort those very people it is trying to help.
