Wimbledon Prize Money (No. 2)

EDM number 2472 in 2005-06, proposed by Philip Davies on 29/06/2006.

That this House believes that the prize money paid to tennis players at Wimbledon should not be a matter for politicians; regrets the recent calls for equal prize money for female tennis players at Wimbledon; suggests that, in the interests of equality and fairness, Wimbledon authorities should ignore such calls; and further suggests that, as female players only play up to three sets, whereas male players play up to five sets, they should instead consider whether the prize money paid to the ladies singles winner should be reduced from the current amount of £625,000 as this represents over 95 per cent. of the money paid to the men's singles winner.

This motion has been signed by a total of 4 MPs.
