Conduct Of The Secretary Of State For Health And The Oxford Radcliffe Nhs Trust
EDM number 2420 in 2005-06, proposed by Tony Baldry on 21/06/2006.
That this House regrets the Secretary of State for Health's remarks at Question Time on 20th June 2006 that the loss of 600 NHS posts in the Oxford Radcliffe Trust was in response to `medical technology changing' and the need to `use new medical technology'; further regrets that the Secretary of State's remarks are dismissive of the concerns of local people, local councillors and trade unionists; notes that `new technology' is not going to help the children who it is expected will have to be transferred every night from the Horton Hospital in Banbury to the John Radcliffe in Oxford because there will no longer be 24-hour paediatric care at the Horton, nor the 160 expectant mothers whom the Trust estimates need to be transferred per year from Banbury to Oxford during pregnancy or labour because the maternity unit at the Horton will no longer have any doctors; further notes that cleaners have been told that in future they will have their numbers reduced and half the time to clean operating theatres than they had previously; and calls on the Secretary of State and Ministers in her Department to visit the hospitals of the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust and apologise for her crass and insensitive remarks.
