Future Of The Rural Post Office Network

EDM number 2389 in 2005-06, proposed by Mike Weir on 19/06/2006.

That this House notes with grave concern recent remarks by Adam Crozier, Chief Executive of Royal Mail, of the `imperative' need for a `radical transformation' of the Post Office network; further notes that the previous transformations carried out were to transform open post offices to closed ones; believes that post offices provide an essential social function in many communities; and urges the Government to give a firm assurance that support for the rural post office network will continue in place after 2008.

This motion has been signed by a total of 47 MPs.
