Conduct Of The Prime Minister And Nhs Job Losses
EDM number 2380 in 2005-06, proposed by Tony Baldry on 15/06/2006.
That this House regrets the Prime Minister's comments at question time on 14th June 2006 that job losses in the Oxfordshire NHS are only so-called; notes that around half of the Trust posts being removed are direct redundancies from doctors to hospital cleaners; further notes that 225 nursing posts will form part of the total number of Trust job losses; observes that these job losses are the result of a £33 million deficit in the Trust despite it being the most efficient hospital Trust in the entire country; further observes that Oxfordshire patients receive the least funding per head in the entire country and that the Trust is under-funded by the same amount that the Prime Minister's constituency is funded above the national average; further notes that these cuts will result in the downgrading of paediatric, emergency and maternity services at the Horton General Hospital and the complete loss of gynaecology and the special care baby unit; and calls on the Prime Minister to apologise to NHS staff for his crass and insensitive comments.
