Whaling (No. 3)
EDM number 2370 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 14/06/2006.
That this House condemns the Japanese government for its deliberate attempt to gain control of the International Whaling Commission through means of aid and financial support to countries across the globe in order to pursue its pro-whaling agenda; recognises that the five day meeting of the International Whaling Commission, due to begin on Friday 16th June, will be a most important meeting with the real threat of thousands of whales being endangered if a pro-whaling consensus is obtained; supports the British Government in its continued opposition to whaling; and calls upon all countries attending the conference to put the interests of the many varied and often rare species of whale ahead of narrow national self-interest.
