Overseas Territories

EDM number 2360 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 14/06/2006.

That this House recognises the important role that elected governments in British Overseas Territories play in representing their respective populations, helping promote social and economic advancement and ensuring that their rights are acknowledged both in the UK and across the world; pays tribute to the loyalty towards the British Crown which each and every one of the British Overseas Territories has expressed over a long period of history; further recognises the right of each territory to determine its own future and to look to increase the powers of domestic governments as opposed to the power of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office; and urges the UK Government to do all it can to support UK overseas territories in becoming more self-reliant while still remaining part of the United Kingdom and loyal to the British Crown.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
