Impact Of Migrant Workers On The Economy
EDM number 2068 in 2005-06, proposed by Keith Vaz on 02/05/2006.
That this House welcomes reports from the Ernst and Young Item Club that the influx of 329,000 migrant workers from Eastern Europe has had a positive effect on the British economy; acknowledges that these workers have helped to keep interest rates at half a point lower than they otherwise would be; and further notes that migrant workers often fill gaps in the economy where the supply of indigenous workers cannot meet demand.
