Association Of The British Pharmaceutical Industry Code Of Practice For The Pharmaceutical Industry

EDM number 2039A1 in 2005-06, proposed by Paul Flynn on 27/04/2006.

delete from `House' to end and insert `is disappointed with the feeble, self-serving new Code of Practice which allows the drugs industry to continue promoting products with lavish five star hospitality; notes that the British Medical Journal says the code 'lacks teeth'; and that the editor of the Drugs and Therapeutic Bulletin call it 'fundamentally weak'; is appalled that, following blatant breaches of past codes and their lethal consequences, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has never expelled a member company or forced one to publish a corrective statement; is alarmed that adverse reactions to drugs are a major and growing cause of death; and calls on the ABPI to answer the serious criticism of its conduct by the Select Committee on Health with a new code that would adequately protect the public against the perils of mis-prescribed and over-prescribed drugs and reduce the cynical greed-driven disease mongering shamelessly promoted by the ABPI.'.

This is a ammendment to 2039.
