Sunderland Move On Up Campaign

That this House welcomes the Sunderland Echo and University of Sunderland Move On Up campaign to increase the number of Wearsiders who enter higher education; notes that currently 35 per cent. of young people nationally enter higher education but only 20 per cent. of young people from Sunderland do so; further notes that entering higher education can be a life changing experience, for careers, socially, culturally and in other ways and also would impact on the economy and social and cultural fabric of Sunderland; calls upon all companies, schools, colleges and citizens of Sunderland and hon. Members to back this campaign and encourage youngsters to consider entering higher education.
