Police Fees For Return Of Stolen Property
EDM number 1953 in 2005-06, proposed by Bob Spink on 30/03/2006.
That this House believes it is right to support the victims of crime and therefore is deeply concerned that the Home Secretary has prescribed in law that a substantial fee must be paid by victims of theft of vehicles and other property effectively to the police, before they can obtain back their property; notes that in some cases the fee charged to victims of crime by the police is in excess of the value of the property to be returned; and calls on the Government to accept the principle that society should support victims of crime, rather than penalising them, and change this pernicious rule.
