Killing Of Civilians In Andijan (No. 2)

EDM number 192 in 2005-06, proposed by Harry Cohen on 24/05/2005.

That this House notes that, in regard to the recent killing of civilians in Andijan, Uzbekistan, the United States, which pays over $50 million to the Uzbeks for operating a major military base in the country, has gone along with the Muslim terrorists' falsehood of the Karimov regime and failed properly to criticise this gross human rights abuse, exposing a double standard in calling for democracy and human rights around the world whilst soft-pedalling where it considers it has a strategic interest; recalls, however, that a US State Department human rights report explicitly asserted that the Uzbeks do not have the opportunity peacefully to change their regime; and further recalls that organisations like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International have been scathing about the Karimov regime's human rights record.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
