Sale Of Greenfield Land For Development
EDM number 189 in 2005-06, proposed by Gordon Prentice on 24/05/2005.
That this House deplores the stated intention of Liberal Democrat-controlled Pendle Borough Council to sell greenfield land at Bawhead Road, Earby, for development when there is brownfield land available; is deeply concerned that the proposed sale will undermine the pioneering work of the Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder, Elevate; notes that the matter is coming up before the Council Executive on Thursday 26th May, when local residents will call on the council to revoke the planning permission it gave itself in September 2004; further notes that the council's own re-deposit version of the local plan acknowledges that there are enough planning permissions for housing already granted to satisfy projected requirements up until 2015; considers that in these circumstances it is utterly perverse and irresponsible for the council to press ahead with the sale of land which is being productively farmed; and urges it to think again.
