Fuel Poverty In Social Housing

EDM number 18 in 2005-06, proposed by Bill Wiggin on 17/05/2005.

That this House welcomes the Government's duty under the Warm Homes and Energy Conservation Act 2000 to eradicate fuel poverty by 2016; notes that the Minister for the Environment, the Right honourable Member for Scunthorpe, told this House, on 19th April 2004, Official Report, column 138W, that a home energy efficiency rating of 65 is needed to ensure an end to fuel poverty; is concerned that the Government's official advisors, the Fuel Poverty Advisory Group, have advised that the current Decent Homes Standard for social housing will leave people in fuel poverty; and therefore calls for all social housing in which there is fuel poverty to be brought up to an energy efficiency rating of 65 in order to end fuel poverty and comply with the law.

This motion has been signed by a total of 83 MPs.
