Woolwich Station For Crossrail

EDM number 1745 in 2005-06, proposed by Tom Brake on 02/03/2006.

That this House views with alarm the decision of the promoters of the Crossrail hybrid Bill to omit a station at Woolwich from their proposals; notes that there was strong support for a station in the Crossrail public consultation and that the Railplan model estimates that 14,300 passengers would use such a station in the morning peak, a footfall higher than is forecast for either Ealing Broadway or Romford; further notes that the greatly superior public transport connections at Woolwich would reduce car use, an increase which will be inevitable if Abbey Wood is the only available station in the area and that access to Crossrail at Woolwich would significantly reduce pressure on the overcrowded London Bridge Station; has confidence that a Crossrail station at Woolwich would greatly enhance the prospect of inward investment and regeneration in an area with 12.6 per cent. unemployment; and calls upon the promoters and the Government to take whatever steps are now necessary to reconsider the Crossrail proposals for Woolwich.
