UK Economic Performance And The Lisbon Agenda

That this House is pleased with reports from the EU Commission that economic growth across the EU is estimated to be 2.2 per cent. for 2006; notes that the United Kingdom is estimated to have the second largest growth rate in the EU of 2.4 per cent.; calls on the Government to maintain United Kingdom economic growth to sustain the United Kingdom's position as one of the fastest growing economies in the EU; welcomes proposals announced by EU Commission President Barroso for a European Institute of Technology; acknowledges that the Institute is another step in advancing the Lisbon Agenda; and calls on the Government to support the proposal.
