Preservation Of Rayners Public House Music Venue
EDM number 1672 in 2005-06, proposed by Michael Connarty on 16/02/2006.
That this House notes the diminishing number of live music venues in the North West London area; further notes the threat of demolition by new owners of the Rayners public house and the reputation of the Rayners for hosting excellent big band jazz, salsa and ska musical events; welcomes Harrow Council's decision to issue an interim building preservation order; further notes the considerable support from the local community and local and national musicians for saving the Rayners from demolition; further welcomes English Heritage's view of the Rayners as a fine example of 1930s architecture; and therefore urges the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to list the Rayners as a building of special architectural and historic interest.
