State Retirement Pension Age
EDM number 1609 in 2005-06, proposed by Mike Weir on 09/02/2006.
That this House notes the opinion expressed by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions that an increase in the retirement age for state pension is inevitable; believes that this would only be so if the Government persists in ruling out any review of the present tax relief system for private pensions under which 50 per cent. of relief goes to the top 10 per cent. of earners; and calls upon the Government to institute a review of the tax relief system as part of its response to the Turner Report and to utilise savings to introduce a Citizen's Pension for all pensioners.
