Railway Pensions
EDM number 1596 in 2005-06, proposed by Alan Simpson on 07/02/2006.
That this House notes with alarm the prospect of worsening pensions in the railway industry; expresses strong support for the campaign by the train drivers' union, ASLEF, to maintain the value of pensions of rail workers and construction workers in the rail industry; further notes the attempt by certain train operating companies and railway infrastructure companies to increase the employee contributions to prohibitive levels; regrets the payment holidays granted in the past to such pension schemes; and calls on the Government to use every influence at its disposal to persuade the industry to cap employees' contributions and maintain existing benefits.
