Conduct Of The Hon. Member For Airdrie And Shotts In The Dunfermline And West Fife By-Election
EDM number 1545 in 2005-06, proposed by Pete Wishart on 31/01/2006.
That this House notes the triple blunders by the right hon. Member for Airdrie and Shotts in the Dunfermline and West Fife by-election; condemns his intemperate and ill-informed attack on the SNP concerning jobs and work opportunities at the Rosyth dockyards; notes how he ignored the number of jobs lost in Fife since Labour came to power in 1997; considers his ignorance of the loss of 7,000 Fife manufacturing jobs, 720 jobs at Lexmark and 1,599 jobs at Rosyth Dockyard as an indication of how out of touch Labour is with the real needs of Fife; questions why the right hon. Member for Airdrie and Shotts said that independence would mean the end of all naval work at Rosyth when he has endorsed a voluntary code of conduct for defence equipment sales across the entire European Union which he hailed as a practical first step towards more competition; and believes that the remarks by the right hon. Member for Airdrie and Shotts have exposed the Labour Party's real fear in the Dunfermline and West Fife by-election by highlighting how they believe the SNP is the real and only credible challenger to the Labour Party.
