University Provision In Peterborough

EDM number 1535 in 2005-06, proposed by Stewart Jackson on 31/01/2006.

That this House welcomes the decision of Peterborough Regional College and Anglia Ruskin College to commence working in partnership towards the goal of establishing a university centre in the City of Peterborough, the largest conurbation in the UK without its own higher education institution; notes that the project has the strong financial support of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the East of England Development Agency and the Learning and Skills Council and that the new facility will be adjacent to the Thomas Deacon Academy, England's largest secondary school academy which will open in September 2007 as part of a dedicated education quarter; and further notes that the university centre project will complement the billion pound redevelopment of the city centre over the next fifteen years, which will secure regeneration of the social, physical and economic environment and which will transform Peterborough into a vibrant, dynamic and successful twenty-first century city.
