Effect Of Loss Of Saver Tickets On The North East
EDM number 1457 in 2005-06, proposed by Sharon Hodgson on 24/01/2006.
That this House recognises that scrapping saver tickets for rail transport and tripling fares for commuters will severely hamper the economic development of the regions, particularly the North East; is disturbed by its potential impact on people on low incomes; believes that increasing the cost of rail travel will increase road usage while government policy prevents improving motorway links out of the North East; and urges reconsideration of these plans in the light of efforts to increase use of public transport.
