London Allowance For Civil Servants
EDM number 1453 in 2005-06, proposed by Kate Hoey on 24/01/2006.
That this House notes with concern that the London allowance for civil servants, which varies by Department and salary band, has been calculated in some instances to be as low as £990 for the lowest paid workers; further notes that other public sector staff such as fire fighters, NHS staff, police and teachers have more generous London allowances, as do building societies and insurance companies in the private sector; further notes that in 2003 the London Assembly received a report that recommended an inner London allowance of between £4,200 and £5,600; and calls on the Government to review this situation with an aim to increase the allowance.
