LEASEHOLDERS' ACCOUNTS

EDM number 1284 in 2005-06, proposed by David Lepper on 15/12/2005.

That this House believes that all leaseholders, whether with private or social sector landlords, should have the same rights in relation to accounting for leasehold monies; welcomes the proposals in the Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002 addressing these issues; regrets the announcement by the Government on 29th July that because of concerns raised by local councils the proposed measures on accounting for leasehold monies would not be taken forward; and, noting the continuing media stories of social sector leaseholders faced with large bills for major works, calls upon the Government to reconsider that decision and provide those leaseholders with the protection they deserve.
