Apples

EDM number 1251 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 13/12/2005.

That this House notes with concern the use of chemicals on apples which allow them to be stored for up to a year before going on sale in supermarkets and grocery stores; recognises that apples on sale which are believed to be fresh have often been stored for many months, losing their nutrient levels; and calls on the Government to introduce tougher labelling rules to ensure that apples that have been treated by the chemical 1-MCP or any other chemical and stored for a number of months are clearly labelled for the benefit of the consumer.

This motion has been signed by a total of 59 MPs.
