Animal Testing For Cosmetic Products And Ingredients
EDM number 1240 in 2005-06, proposed by Lorely Burt on 12/12/2005.
That this House notes the continued unjustified suffering of animals used in the testing of cosmetics; reiterates its support for the Government's announcement in 1998 that it would not grant licences for animals to be used in the testing of cosmetic products or ingredients in the UK; expresses concern that this announcement is still not enshrined in statute; welcomes the EU Commission's move to ban animal testing for finished cosmetic products from 2006 and cosmetic product ingredients from 2009; expresses further concern that, although this will stop animal testing in the EU, it will not stop the import and sale of cosmetics products tested on animals outside the EU; and calls for the Government to introduce a complete sales ban on all cosmetic products and ingredients tested on animals.
