The Pharmaceutical Industry And Nhs Wales Partnership Guidance
EDM number 1214 in 2005-06, proposed by Dai Havard on 07/12/2005.
That this House welcomes the guidance document (Welsh Health Circular 2005 (016)) promoted by the Welsh Assembly Government, which gives guidance for partnership working between NHS organisations, primary care contractors, the pharmaceutical industry and allied commercial sector; welcomes the principle central to the guidance that partnership working must be conducted for the benefit of patients; supports the development of relationships rather than compelling partnerships; further supports the notion of openness and transparency at the heart of the guidance and the requirement that all partnership arrangements be documented in a register of ledger, available for audit and to the public on request; acknowledges that no partnership is allowed to require the purchase of particular goods or services and that the guidance helps ensure effective partnership working between NHS Wales and the pharmaceutical industry for better health service delivery in Wales; and further welcomes the recent revised United Kingdom pharmaceutical industry Code of Practice supported by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency revising self-regulation arrangements to help bring confidence to the development of best practice in the involvement of the pharmaceutical industry in developing healthcare.
