EDM number 1173 in 2005-06, proposed by Fraser Kemp on 01/12/2005.

That this House welcomes the plans unveiled to transform the Galleries shopping centre in Washington, Tyne and Wear, into one of the most modern and attractive town centres; further welcomes the commitment of the local councillors in Washington and the centre's owner, the Prudential, to the £10 million project which will create one of the North East's main shopping centres able to compete with other long-established malls; notes that a third of all journeys to the centre are made by bus; further notes plans to build a modern new bus station to serve the centre will greatly improve public transport on Wearside; believes the plans will attract many new stores to the centre and will create new jobs for the people of Wearside; and further believes that this initiative should be welcomed by all.
