Grizzly Bears
EDM number 1109 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 24/11/2005.
That this House notes with concern the decision taken by the Bush Administration to remove the grizzly bear from the endangered species list; recognises that the number of grizzly bears in the areas surrounding the Yellowstone National Park has increased considerably to 600 since they were listed, after once facing extinction as a result of hunting; further notes that this decision will allow hunting to be re-introduced across six million acres of land and could result in the grizzly bear facing extinction; further notes that the removal from the list would open up the habitat to oil and gas exploration; and calls on the US government to reverse this decision and protect the grizzly bear.
